Dua was born on 22 August 1995 in London, England. Before her birth, her family decided to leave their homeland and fly to Pristina, Kosovo, because of the emerging conflict in Yugoslavia. After that, Dua’s parents arrived in London and lived there. Dua has been interested in writing songs since she was only 4.
The love of music is in her genes because her father had been a part of a rock band along with his dental studies. Her father played music around her, which impacted Lipa a lot. So from an early age, she knew what she wanted to be.
She revealed that she listened to different artists in her childhood, such as Sting and Pink, Blondie, Bob Dylan, and Prince. In 2006, the parents of Dua Lipa decided to move back to Kosovo because it became safe enough then. Dua was only 11 when they moved back, but she left her heart in London.
She came from an Albanian background, but her language could have been better because her early education was in London. With time, she improved her Albanian and then started making friends. Then she started listening to Kosovo’s hip-hop music which introduced her to different but new music.
At the age of 15, she decided to come back to London to pursue her singing dream. She wanted to pursue her career in singing on a global scale, which was not possible to do in Kosovo. Her parents supported her cause and allowed her to move to London with a family friend.
Arriving in London, she started posting song covers on her YouTube channel and studying side by side. She wanted to gain someone’s attention towards her singing skills, which greatly impacted them. After a while, she signed with a modeling agency because she believed it would help her get into the music industry.
Then Lipa decided to upload her songs on SoundCloud. She sang in a commercial show, and then Lipa was offered a deal in music publishing. In 2015, Lipa’s first single was released, “New Love.” With time, she released more songs. In 2017, she released her first album named “New Rules.”
That album got hit with almost 2 billion views on YouTube. When the 61st Grammy Awards were held in 201, she was nominated as a new artist and won the award. Her second album was “Future Nostalgia,” a massive hit. Then she became the top female artist on the listening chart of Spotify. Her album got the award for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Her father, Dukagjin, is a dentist, and her mother, Anisa Lipa, is a housewife. She has two siblings, Rina and Gjin. She dated Anwar Hadid, a famous model, and brother of Bella Hadid.
Dua Lipa’s first single was produced with the help of Lana Del Rey.
